Kenyan President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga have appeared together this weekend at various events, for the first time since the presidential election and after much friction between the two.
Ruto and Raila have attended a funeral and a sports competition in recent hours, where the good relations between the two have let Kenyans see that there are expectations that they have come closer to resolving their differences.
Both politicians were close allies in the 2007 elections, but they later distanced themselves and since the last elections, in which they were rivals, they have been especially hard on each other.
The opposition leader has criticized the increase in the cost of living in recent months, accusing Ruto of taxing citizens too much, for which he has made numerous appeals to the population to demonstrate in the streets in protest of the president’s measures .
However, Odinga already announced at the beginning of the month that he would suspend the calls he had made to give dialogue a chance. Despite this, he warned that if the negotiations did not prosper, he would once again summon Kenyans to the streets.
