The paramilitary leader 'Hemedti' reappears to ensure that he is still in Khartoum and demand the surrender of Al Burhan

Reveals contacts with the US to facilitate the evacuation of foreign citizens

22 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, has reappeared before the media after hours of doubts about his whereabouts to ensure that he is still in the capital, Khartoum, and demand the immediate surrender of the leader of the Army, Abdelfatá al Burhan, whom he accuses of being the main obstacle to peace.

“That man has completely destroyed Sudan,” ‘Hemedti’ lamented in statements to Al Hadath and Al Jazeera, before accusing the officially named president of the Sovereign Council of having “ruined the Sudanese Army” and of having become the main impediment to peace. “That man is in a trench, and now he himself does not know what is happening,” he added.

‘Hemedti’ insisted, as he has been doing in recent days, that his paramilitary forces are innocent of any responsibility for the outbreak of the fighting and has assured that, in reality, his RSF are guarantors of democracy, that “more than once they have prevented new coups d’état by Al Burhan” to consolidate his power.

‘Hemedti’ has also reiterated that the structure close to Al Burhan is dotted with “Islamist elements” that are detrimental to the country’s democratic transition. “He is surrounded by them. I maintain that we are pursuing a transition to democracy and the right for the Sudanese to choose their representatives,” he added.

Finally, the paramilitary leader has declared that he does not have the slightest intention of starting negotiations with Al Burhan right now. “Right now what is being discussed is a truce”, he has asserted before relating it to the state of the ceasefire, now practically cracked, to facilitate the evacuation of foreign citizens.

In this sense, ‘Hemedti’ has confirmed contacts with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to try to arrange for its citizens to leave the country.
