The Nigerian Electoral Commission attributes the delay in the publication of results to technical problems

26 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (CNEI) has stressed this Sunday that the delay in the publication of the official results of the general elections this Saturday is completely normal and is due to the technical conditions of the system.

“The Commission is aware of the drawbacks of the INEC results visualization portal. In previous tests the system has been relatively slow and unstable,” explained a spokesman for the Commission, Festus Okoye, quoted by the newspaper ‘Vanguard ‘.

“The Commission regrets these inconveniences, in particular due to the importance of the visualization system in the results management process,” it added.

Okoye has stressed that all the results are safe within the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) although they have not yet been uploaded to the CNEI results portal.

It is a technical problem and “there is no intrusion or sabotage of our systems.” “Our technical team is working diligently to resolve all outstanding issues. System users have already noticed improvements since last night,” she said.

Okoye has valued the concern expressed by various personalities and the “suggestions” received. “It is important to avoid statements and actions that could ‘heat up’ politics or foment animosity against the Commission,” he pointed out.

On the other hand, the CNEI has announced that the elections will be repeated this Monday in various voting centers in seven municipalities in the state of Abia: Obingwa, Osisioma, Aba del Norte, Aba del Sur, Umuahia del Norte, Ohafia and Arochukwu.

The opposition has denounced widespread irregularities and acts of violence against auditors and sympathizers of the opposition parties, for which it has already announced that it will appeal the results of the elections to the courts.
