The latest attempt under Greek law to form a government emerged from the legislative elections last Sunday failed this Wednesday, as expected, with which it is now certain that The Greeks will have a new appointment with the polls, predictably on June 25. After holding a meeting today with the leaders of all political parties, the country’s president, Katerina Sakelaropúluannounced that this Wednesday he will entrust the president of the Court of Accounts, Ioannis Sarmás, with the formation of an interim Executive to lead the country to the new elections.
As reported by public television ERT, the plan is for this executive headed by Sarmas as interim prime minister take office next Friday. On Sunday, May 28, the new Parliament arising from the legislative ones will be constituted, which will be dissolved the following day, Monday, local media report.

No coalition government

The meeting lasted only half an hour, and ended with the expected failure, since it was simply a mere formality required by law as a last resort to try to form a new Executive.
Mitsotakis already expressed on Sunday, after knowing the result of the vote, his desire to hold new elections, since in this way he hopes to achieve, by virtue of a bonus of up to 50 seats to the most voted party that will be introduced on that occasion, the absolute majority of deputies to govern alone.
The prime minister has advocated that the new elections take place next June 25.
