The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mikolaev calls for the evacuation of the population due to the Russian attacks

June 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mikolaev, Alexander Senkevich, has urged this Friday to evacuate the city, which is located in southern Ukraine, between Odessa and Kherson, due to daily attacks by Russian troops after the invasion that began on February 24th.

“In general, the situation is very bad. They bomb us every day. A total of 111 people have died in the country so far. One of them is a child. We also have 502 people injured, including 6 children,” he said. the mayor in an interview for Radio Liberty.

He also added that he recommends “all (residents) who want to stay alive” to “leave the city”, because Russian troops use, “in 80 percent of cases”, cluster bombs, ammunition prohibited since 2010 by the Convention on Cluster Munitions in 2010, to which more than 100 countries are subscribed, among which are neither Ukraine nor Russia.

The city’s ruler has assured that “it is safe to leave the city” and has asked that Mikolaev not be returned. “I think that today it is inappropriate to return to the city until this situation in our country is resolved,” he commented.

On the other hand, Senkevich has indicated that the council does not have figures on residents who are returning to the city after fleeing at first.
