The fire was sparked by a charging scooter battery that suddenly burst into flames, surveillance footage released by the New York Fire Department (FDNY) shows, and is the latest in a series of battery-related fires. lithium ion.

“This problem is not isolated to just New York. We must work to create and implement national safety standards for lithium-ion batteries to protect people and places from unreasonable risk, serious injury or damage, and/or death,” Torres said at a press conference with local media.
