A Madrid court has taken the first step to investigate Íñigo Errejón after actress Elisa Mouliaá filed a complaint against him for sexual assault. The magistrate of Court 47 of Madrid has written to the Congress of Deputies so that the lower house confirms that Errejón is no longer a deputy and that, therefore, he is not qualified before the Supreme Court and can be investigated by an ordinary court. . The magistrate’s move comes after the Judicial Police Brigade sent the testimony of the affected woman to court number 47 in Plaza de Castilla in Madrid.
Congressional sources explain to elDiario.es that the chamber will respond to the magistrate this Monday, communicating that Sumar’s former spokesperson is no longer a parliamentarian and that, therefore, he has lost his capacity. Once he receives the response, the judge will declare himself competent and decide whether or not to open criminal proceedings against Íñigo Errejón for sexual crimes. The former politician left his record effectively last Thursday.
The complaint states that both met at a party in September 2021 a few hours after meeting in person. Mouliaá claims that the politician grabbed her “strongly” by the arm to take her “by force” to a room whose door he locked “so that she could not escape.” Errejón, according to the complaint, began to “kiss and touch” the woman until “he pushed her onto the bed and took out his virile member.” Everything happened, she added, without her consent and while she was “paralyzed.”
The testimony of this actress and presenter was known a few hours after Íñigo Errejón announced his resignation from all his public and political positions. In a statement, the former deputy and spokesperson for Sumar in Congress did not make direct reference to any accusation of sexist attitudes or sexual violence and claimed to have reached “the limit” of “the contradiction between the character and the person.”
In recent days, various testimonies have emerged from women who accuse the former politician: “Everything was about his desire to dominate,” a woman who had a relationship with Errejón for just over a year explained to elDiario.es. From Sumar, the party whose parliamentary spokesperson he held until a few days ago, they have admitted failures of “detection and prevention” in their case and have apologized, also announcing “protocols for preventing and addressing situations of harassment and sexual assault.”
More Madrid denies having known the facts
This Monday the minister and leader of Más Madrid, Mónica García, appeared together with Manuela Bergerot and Rita Maestre to defend the actions of her political party. The party, he stated, “has not received any complaint or any specific testimony, either present or past, against Errejón. Nor has it been nor is it aware of episodes similar to those that have been reported in recent days.”
The party has accused the former regional representative Loreto Arenillas of allegedly trying to cover up a complaint published more than a year ago on the social network Castellón nightclub. Rita Maestre has stated that Arenillas acted “behind the backs of the organization, the executive and the party,” something that Arenillas He denied minutes later.
The possible judicial case against Errejón due to Elisa Mouliaá’s complaint is still pending several procedures before the formal opening of a criminal procedure: for Congress to respond, for the judge to declare himself competent and then decide that there is sufficient evidence to open a cause. If you do so, one of your first moves will be to ask the victim to confirm their accusations.
