The head of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, notified this Tuesday the Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, that he will resign on March 6 due to security failures related to the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Resistance Movement Islamic (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.

Halevi, who will resign about ten months before the end of his three-year term, has stated in his letter that he takes this decision to keep his promise to assume his “responsibility” for the “failure of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). )” in the aforementioned attacks, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.

Likewise, he highlighted that this decision comes after the “significant achievements” obtained by the Army since then and in the midst of the “implementation” of the ceasefire agreement agreed last week with Hamas for the Gaza Strip, which came into force. on Sunday and contemplates the release of hostages kidnapped during the aforementioned attacks.

“I have requested to leave my position on March 6, 2025,” he stated in his letter, revealed by the Israeli Army through its account on the social network X. “Until then, I will complete the IDF’s investigations into the events of October 7 and will strengthen the IDF’s preparation for security challenges,” he explained.
