The French National Assembly knocks down the initiative of the left to try to remove Macron

MADRID 8 Oct. () –

The National Assembly of France will not study in plenary session the initiative proposed by the left to try to remove the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron, after the body that brings together the different political parties has agreed to permanently paralyze the procedure.

France Insoumise (LFI) had promoted this motion as a response to Macron’s decision to appoint a conservative prime minister, despite the victory of the left in the last legislative elections. The initiative had already received a first rejection in the Law Commission of the French Lower House.

Now, the conference of presidents of the Assembly has decided that the plenary session will not even study it, in a decision that has united the deputies allied with Macron and the classic right and in which Marine Le Pen’s National Rally has abstained. , according to parliamentary sources cited by the BFM TV network.

The national coordinator of LFI, Manuel Bompard, has assured that Le Pen’s party is today “life insurance” for Macron, but he has anticipated that they will try again. “We will not abandon: we will re-present a resolution until the dismissal is discussed in the National Assembly,” he proclaimed on social networks.

Precisely this Tuesday the Assembly is the scene of the first motion of censure against the Government of Michel Barnier, which does not have an absolute majority. More than 190 left-wing deputies have supported this motion, but the threshold of 289 seems unattainable without the support of the extreme right, which has already said that it will not overthrow the Executive for now.
