The European Union still has no response from Israel to the formal invitation for a future meeting of the Association Council in which the European bloc wants to discuss the situation in Gaza and guarantee compliance with the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

According to European sources told Europa Press, six days after the EU launched the initiative there is no response from the Israeli authorities. This de facto paralyzes the convening of the Association Council because both parties have to specify a date and prepare an agenda, in addition the EU would have to forge a common message to transmit to Tel Aviv.

The formal invitation was transferred on June 5 at the initiative of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, who thus followed up on the agreement at the end of May between the Twenty-Seven to convene Israel to discuss the offensive in Rafá, launched by Israel despite warnings from the international community.

In Brussels it is assumed that the Israeli authorities intend to postpone the call as long as possible, amid the continuing disagreements with Israel and the wave of attacks against the member states of the bloc that took the step of recognizing Palestine. In this sense, sources rule out the option of it being held before the end of the month, in parallel with the meeting of EU foreign ministers.

The last episode of the diplomatic escalation was the message from the Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, mocking the result achieved by the PSOE and Sumar in the European elections this Sunday, arguing that their support for the terrorist group Hamas, for having recognized Palestine , has been punished by the voters.
