The EU sees the murder of an Afghan deputy a "brutal reminder" of the situation of women in the country

BRUSSELS, Jan 16. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Union has shown this Monday its “shock” by the murder of Mursal Nabizada, a member of the former Afghan Parliament deposed by the Taliban in an attack under investigation that occurred at her home in Kabul.

The death of Nabizada and her bodyguard is “another brutal reminder” of the “difficult” situation faced by Afghans and the security threats suffered by women under the Taliban regime, said the EU’s Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, Nabila. Massrali, in a message on social networks.

In this sense, the spokesperson has offered the condolences of the EU to the family of the politician and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. Her brother was also injured in the attack.

This is the first time that a former Afghan politician has been killed since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. Many Afghan politicians, including several female lawmakers, sought refuge outside the country after the Taliban returned to power.
