The EU condemns the attempted "overthrow" of Arce in Bolivia

BRUSSELS, June 26 () –

The European Union has expressed this Wednesday its condemnation of the attempt to “overthrow” and “break the constitutional order” in Bolivia, in the midst of the coup d’état led by the Army commander, Juan José Zúñiga.

“The European Union condemns any attempt to break the constitutional order in Bolivia and overthrow democratically elected governments,” said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, in a message on social networks.

In this sense, the head of European diplomacy has expressed his solidarity with the government of Luis Arce and with the Bolivian people at this time.

This Wednesday the Bolivian authorities have warned of “irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army”, ensuring that they “attack democracy, peace and security of the country.”

At the forefront of this coup attempt is the Army commander, Juan José Zúñiga, dismissed in the last few hours after stating this week in the press that the Armed Forces would act to prevent former president Evo Morales from running in the elections.
