Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the eldest son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and a general in the Ugandan Army, announced on Monday through his Twitter profile that he will retire this year after nearly three decades of service, as voices grow. that he might be preparing to replace him.
“Jesus Christ is once again my only commander in chief. I will retire from the UPDF this year,” he wrote on Twitter, days after he used that same social network to announce his intentions to run for the 2026 presidential elections, his greatest asset. He later deleted that message in which he gave an account of his aspirations.
“How many of you agree that our time has come? We’ve had enough with the older people ruling over us. Dominating us. It’s time for our generation to shine,” he wrote, possibly alluding to his 78-year-old father and at the helm of Uganda since 1986.
Ugandan law does not allow active soldiers to stand for election and Kainerugaba, who is very active on social networks, has never hidden his intentions to replace his father, who had to dismiss him as head of the Army for some controversial tweets in which he boasted of being able to take Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, in two weeks.
