The DRC authorities prevent the passage of opposition member Moise Katumbi to the Central Congo region

May 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The authorities of the province of Central Congo have denied this Tuesday the access to the region of the prominent politician Moise Katumbi, candidate for the Presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who had the intention of carrying out political activities in the framework of the presidential elections.

The governor of the province, Guy Bandu, has justified the measure citing the tense security situation in recent weeks in the country, after the police repression that took place last weekend in anti-government protests.

Bandu, who has also mentioned the insufficiency of police personnel, has asked the opposition leader to postpone his activities for 48 to 72 hours, limiting the acts to a single day and to a specific place, as reported by the Radio Okapi station.

Katumbi’s spokesman, Olivier Kamitatu, has denounced the “dictatorial drift” of the Congolese president, Felix Tshisekedi: “His mask has fallen off,” he assured, as reported by RFI.

Shortly after, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Security, Peter Kazadi, has asked the governor of Central Congo to come to Kinshasa for an extremely urgent consultation, an appointment about which he has not given any further details, reports the newspaper ‘ Opinion Info’.
