The conservatives force a meeting of the Judiciary after Sánchez’s letter about the judge investigating Begoña Gómez

Sánchez campaigns with Begoña Gómez and asks to unite the vote in the PSOE against "the dirty war" from the right

The Permanent Commission of the General Council of the Judiciary, one of the bodies with the most power within the institution, has called an urgent meeting for Monday of next week and “to rule” on “the latest public demonstrations that may affect the judicial independence.” Sources from the governing body of the judges explain to elDiario.es the reason for this extraordinary call for the day after the European elections: the statements by President Pedro Sánchez about the judge who has called his wife to testify.

These same sources explain that several members of the conservative sector of the CGPJ have requested that the Commission meet this Thursday, but that another sector led by the president, Vicente Guilarte, has proposed that it be held next week, after of the elections. The decision to finally do so on June 10 has been made by consensus of all groups.

In recent days, Judge Peinado, who is investigating the wife of the President of the Government after a complaint from Manos Cleans, has called Begoña Gómez to testify as a defendant. Pedro Sánchez, in a second letter addressed to citizens after the first after learning of the opening of proceedings, alluding to Peinado’s decision: “It is announced only five days before elections to the European Parliament are held, which is strange. Usually, the unwritten rule has been followed of not issuing resolutions that could affect the normal development of an electoral campaign and, therefore, the vote of citizens. In this case, it is evident that this practice has not been respected. I leave it to the reader to draw their own conclusions.”
