The Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard attributes to the former socialist minister José Luis Ábalos a “relevant and responsible role” in the ‘Koldo plot’, the case of alleged corruption in the purchase of medical supplies during the pandemic with contracts from the Government that nested in the Ministry of Transportation, which Ábalos directed between January 2021 and July 2021.
This is stated in a new report that the police unit has sent to the judge of the National Court Ismael Moreno who is investigating the case. After receiving that report, the magistrate asked the president of Congress to certify whether Ábalos currently enjoys the “status of deputy.”
Since the PSOE expelled him from its ranks and from the Parliamentary Group in Congress last February, Ábalos has been part of the Mixed Group. As he is a deputy—and, therefore, qualified—only the Supreme Court can open a case against him. The judge’s movement is interpreted as a first step towards his indictment in this procedure.
In its 233-page report, the UCO attributes to Ábalos the aforementioned “relevant and responsible role” in the plot and shows his “direct relationship” with Koldo García, who was his personal advisor and the main person involved in the plot; and Víctor de Aldama, the alleged getter and whom investigators place as the driving force of the criminal organization.
