The barometer of the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) for the month of February estimates that, if general elections were held again now, the PSOE would win them with a greater advantage over the PP than a month ago. The Socialists amass a cushion that exceeds two points after rising to 32.1% of the votes; the PP also rises in February, although it does so to a lesser extent.
The survey also reflects a decrease in United We Can in February, which is far from the 14% achieved a month ago. Vox remains unchanged, with an estimate by the CIS well below its latest election results. Ciudadanos continues with its monthly decline, and now it would only manage to gather 2% of the votes.
Among the most relevant changes is that of the PSOE, which for the first time in several months manages to reverse the downward trend. The Socialists, who were moving towards 30% at the risk of losing that psychological barrier, see how their electoral expectations rise this month to 32.1%, more than two points above their results in the general elections.
The increase allows them to increase their advantage with the PP: if a month ago it stood at 1.7 points, the cushion is now 2.3 points. The PP achieves that it does not widen more because this month it also rises. Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s party went from 28.5% in January to 29.8% in March. This increase also allows him to leave the 28% range in which he had transited with minimal changes during the last six months.
This figure keeps the PP well above the 2019 electoral results, when with Pablo Casado at the helm they were left with only 20.8% of the votes. The party has moved away from these data for more than a year.
United We Can is the one who loses the February barometer. In full controversy in the Government over the reform of the ‘only yes is yes’ law, and which seems to have no impact on the socialist wing of the Government, Unidas Podemos sees how this month it loses 14.2% and remains at a 12.4, a drop of almost two points in one month.
Vox, for its part, does not experience any change. The far-right formation repeats with exactly the same figure as a month ago: 10%. Santiago Abascal’s party has spent four months with hardly any changes in the CIS estimates, which keep it well below the 15.1% it obtained in the last elections.
Ciudadanos, for their part, has not been able to reverse the gradual decline that they have been experiencing for months, and the barometer reflects that they would only get 2% of the votes.
Sánchez and Feijóo, tied
Regarding the assessment of political leaders, the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, remains at the head of the table with a slight rise that places her with a score of 4.91, close to passing. Behind her there is now a fight between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who this month are totally tied: both get a score of 4.34. Of course, with the leader of the popular on the rise and the president of the Government losing a few tenths.
Behind, already in fourth place, is Iñigo Errejón (4.02), Inés Arrimadas (3.41) and Santiago Abascal, who repeats as the worst valued leader with a score of 2.72.
