The CEO of AWS, Amazon's most important vertical, resigns

Why is AWS important?

Although the best-known part of Amazon is its e-commerce service, the reality is that it is a company that also provides technology through AWS, the vertical specialized in delivering cloud services for business clients.

Currently, it is one of the most important competitors in the Artificial Intelligence race, because despite not having a product as public as ChatGPT, its cloud infrastructure is essential to make this technology work.

During the first quarter of 2024, AWS represented 62% of the company’s total operating profit, in addition to having grown 17% compared to the previous year, with $25 billion.

In addition, Jassy highlighted that during his time at the head of AWS, Selipsky’s team created and launched several Generative Artificial Intelligence services, such as Amazon Bedock and Amazon Q, which are available so that companies can create their own chatbots with internal data.

It is worth mentioning that AWS has also had an impact in other countries, such as Mexico, where the firm announced an investment of 5,000 million dollars for the installation of data centers in Querétaro.

This injection will be carried out over the next 15 years and responds to the growing demand for cloud technology from its clients, among which Cinépolis, BIVA, Aeroméxico and even local governments stand out.

Who will be the new CEO of AWS?

According to Andy Jassy’s announcement, Matt Garman will take over as the new CEO of Amazon Web Services effective June 3. Garman has worked at Amazon for almost 18 years and is currently responsible for global sales and marketing for AWS.
