The AMDH-Nador calls for an impartial investigation and autopsies of all those who died in the assault on Melilla

June 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The section in Nador of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) has called this Wednesday for an “impartial” investigation and autopsies of all those killed during the attempted assault on the border between Nador and Melilla last Friday.

The organization has requested in a statement an “urgent” intervention by the authorities to open a “comprehensive and impartial judicial investigation” into what happened.

In addition, “purify responsibilities, know the total number of victims, identify them and carry out the necessary autopsies of all the bodies before authorizing their burial,” according to the text, published on its Facebook page.

At least 23 sub-Saharan migrants died according to Moroccan authorities last Friday in an attempt to cross the Melilla fence from the Moroccan city of Nador due to the intervention of Moroccan security forces.

NGOs such as the AMDH warn that the real death toll could be “much higher” and have denounced the digging of graves in a nearby cemetery and the alleged intention of the authorities to bury the bodies without an autopsy or investigation.
