The third meeting of Sherpas under the Indian Presidency of the G20, chaired by the Indian G20 Sherpa Shri. Amitabh Kant, will be held in HampiKarnataka, 13-16 July 2023. Situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra, Hampi was the last capital of the Vijayanagara Kingdom and, with its magnificent, intricately designed Dravidian-style temples and other monuments, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
The 3rd Sherpa Meeting, which will last three days, will be attended by more than 120 delegates led by their respective Sherpas and Heads of Delegation from the G20 members, invited countries and International Organizations (IOs), who will deliberate and participate in the joint drafting of the Leaders’ Declaration to be adopted by the G20 leaders at the New Delhi Summit.
Priority issues
Guided by the inclusive-ambitious-action-oriented-decisive vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Sherpas will negotiate the text that reflects the priorities of the Presidency on Green Development, Climate Finance, Lifestyle for the Environment ( life); Accelerated, Inclusive and Resilient Growth; Acceleration of Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Technological Transformation and Digital Public Infrastructure; Multilateral Institutions for the 21st Century; and Development Led by Women.
The third meeting of the G20 Working Group on Culture begins
It should be remembered that these priorities, arrived at after incorporating feedback from the Voices of the Global South Summit, have guided the discussions in the various lines of work during the Indian Presidency of the G20.
Cultural activities
While delegates engage in intense deliberations during the day, the evenings will provide them with the opportunity for local experiences that are not limited to the rich heritage offered by Hampi’s austere and grandiose location, but also to local gastronomy and cultural performances.
Across 4,100 hectares, where royal and sacred forts and complexes tell stories, colonnaded halls sing, mandapas and memorial structures, water structures and riverside features bear witness to a bygone era, Sherpas will experience a immersive experience. Delegates will visit Hampi’s historical sites and monuments such as Vijaya Vithala Temple, Yeduru Basvanna Complex and Virupaksha Temple, the Rayas, Hampi’s museum showcasing the legacy of greatness. They will experience local handicrafts and toys from Chennapatna, Kinhalla, Bidri, Ganjifa skillfully made and decorated by local artisans.
