Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Wellington Koo, declared this Wednesday that a blockade of the island by China would constitute an “act of war”, just one day after the Chinese Army launched a series of military maneuvers with live fire in front of Taiwan, which Beijing considers another province under its sovereignty.

“If you really want to carry out the so-called blockade, which according to International Law consists of prohibiting all planes and ships from entering the area, then according to United Nations resolutions it is considered an act of war,” he stated. the Minister of Defense, in statements to the media in Parliament.

Koo has specified that although the Chinese military command delimits its exercise area, there are no air or maritime exclusion zones. “The exercises and drills are totally different from a blockade, as would be the impact on the international community,” he stressed.

Precisely this Wednesday, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense published on the X social network that a group of Chinese aircraft carriers sailed off the coast of the island. “At 9:09 local time, China launched satellites with a flight path over our ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone) towards the western Pacific. The altitude is beyond the atmosphere, so it does not pose any threat” , they have pointed out.

Last Tuesday, the Chinese Army launched live-fire maneuvers near the Pingtan Islands, in Fujian province.

In addition, last week, China held military maneuvers for one day with the aim of testing efforts to “block key ports and areas”, so Taiwan managed to record the deployment of 153 aircraft, 14 warships and twelve ships. in just one day.

In response to these maneuvers, countries like the United States have organized what they call transit maneuvers to defend “freedom of navigation” in the Taiwan Strait. To this end, the destroyer ‘USS Higgins’ and the Canadian frigate ‘HMCS Vancouver’ have been deployed to the area.
