June 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan conveyed his condolences to his Israeli counterpart, Tzachi Hanegbi, on Friday for the four Israeli civilians recently killed by Hamas and expressed his “unwavering support” for Israel.
Sullivan also endorsed during a phone call with Hanegbi the “right (of Israel) to defend its people against Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terrorist groups.”
The US adviser has also expressed his “deep concern” about attacks by extremist settlers against Palestinian individuals and civilian property in the West Bank, according to a White House statement.
In this regard, Sullivan has called on both parties to “refrain from carrying out unilateral actions, including settlement activities, that further exacerbate tensions.”
Instead, from the United States they have emphasized the need to “take additional measures to restore calm and reduce tensions” and “the importance of holding those responsible for such acts of violence accountable.
