(CNN) — The head of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, approved a 24-hour ceasefire “to ensure the safe passage of civilians and the evacuation of the wounded.”
The “armistice” was agreed after a conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, said on Twitter.
Hemedti stated that his rival, the Sudanese Armed Forces, have not respected the ceasefire and have shelled densely populated areas, endangering the lives of civilians.
“We look forward to further discussions with the US Secretary of State on how best to address these violations,” Hemedti said.
