Star Wars and zombies, finally together: 'Deathtroopers' has created the most attractive unofficial video game in the saga

'Star Wars: Outlaws': Ubisoft publishes a new trailer and the release date of the highly anticipated open world game

It is not very common to reimagine the world of 'Star Wars' as a horror film, although it is true that for years the empty and silent environments of spaceships and the infinite unknown that is outer space have accustomed us to expect that the science fiction stories have a dark side. In fact, aspects of 'Star Wars' such as the Dark Side or its (often) terrifying and deformed villains They play with the terrifying aspect that every science fiction adventure has.

However, 'Deathtroopers' presses the accelerator in that sense: developer Stefano Cagnani starts from a book by Joe Schreiber that reminds us that in literary terms there have been more forays into the space horror of 'Star Wars', such as the youth series 'Galaxy of Fear'. In any case, the video game based on this 2009 book has two episodes, both downloadable for free on itch.io.

In the first of them We wandered around the Death Star like a Stormtrooper facing off against waves of undead stormtroopersand included the appearance of a well-known villain from the franchise completely zombiefied. In the new chapter, The Outpost, we are on the moon of Endor, where we must locate an old abandoned Rebel base. And we will also find very recognizable fauna of the planet.

The game mechanics, as is obvious given the modesty of the project (which, however, uses Unreal 5 as its engine), is very simple: third-person shooting taking down a wave of zombie troops one after another. But the result is forceful and mysterious, and has very valuable atmospheric findings. A shame that, unlike the times in which the original book appeared, when the Expanded Universe was taking its first steps, it is unthinkable to see more stories like this in an official game.

In Xataka | Although it may sound strange that the first 'Star Wars' is 'Episode IV', Lucas had a good reason for doing it this way.
