Final Fantasy XVI Resource – SQUARE ENIX
April 9 (Portaltic/EP) –
Square Enix does not rule out developing a new Final Fantasy Tacticsbut he does not believe that the story developed in the most recent main installment of the saga, Final Fantasy 16, is the appropriate basis, especially given the scale that the combats between Eikon would require.
Final Fantasy 16 will receive new downloadable content 'The Rising Tide' on April 18, which introduces a quest to save the missing Dominant of Leviathan, Eikon of the Water. In December 'Echoes of the Fallen' arrived, with another mission that invites you to investigate the smuggling of black crystals and leads to a new location, the Tower of the Sages.
These two DLCs expand the adventure in Final Fantasy 16, but the base game story is finished, as confirmed by the director and producer of the game, Naoki Yoshida, in an interview with The Gamer within the framework of the PAX East event.
Yoshida does not believe that this game should have a sequel that continues the story of Mysidia, and does not see it as the basis for a new Final Fantasy Tactics, since they understand that it would be too much for such a title.
The prospect of battle alone would make it unfeasible, as the director and producer has commented. “How would we do Eikon vs. Eikon battles in that style?”he asks, referring to the Tactics gridded game board, on which the characters of the two sides are placed and through which they move in their confrontation.
“If you have Eikons, how many squares will an Eikon have? There are also more people there, so,What about the intermediate waiting time?” in a reference to the loading time, since it is a turn-based strategy game.
Yoshida acknowledges that “the series lends itself well to that type of storytelling” and that those responsible for Final Fantasy “love Tactics”, which is why he added that ““It's probably time we made a new one.”
