June 20 (Portaltic/EP) –
Sony Interactive Entertainment ha designed a system that allows players create minigames from selected fragments of video games that have already been previously published by the company.
The technology company intends to find new ways to play existing titles Created by PlayStation Studios and, in this way, “increase the longevity of old games”, with a new system that avoids having to play the same level or complete the same missions over and over again.
This has been reflected by Sony in a recently registered patent in the United States, in which it presents a new system that allows users to create minigames by themselves, from selected fragments of video games to those who want to give them a second life.
As explained in the text of the patent itself, the designed minigames do not have to start at the traditional starting points of the original game on which they are to be based. That is, it can choose the user’s favorite fragments or the most exciting to design the minigame.
As exemplified by Sony, the minigame can start near the end of a level, just before facing a final opponent. This would be a point of interest since it is the climax of a particular section of the game.
Thus, when creating a minigame, the user can design it using these features. For example, the designer may choose to use this section as a starting point and, to make it more challenging than in the original version, limit the number of lives that a player can use or change some other parameter of the game to increase its difficulty or add tension.
Likewise, minigame designers can give specific instructions for players to complete new objectives within the plot. That is, the idea is based on create a challenge in which players must achieve, for example, the highest scores “in a format that was not originally designed into the legacy game.”
Also, according to Sony, one of the advantages of these minigames is that, in addition to being created by the users themselves, use characters and basic components already known to the players, since they are derived from an existing game. For this reason, “they are more likely to play the minigame,” the technology firm added.
At the moment it is a patent. However, there are some video games that have a similar system, How can Halo be with the level editor? Forgein which players can create their own maps and game modes, or the platform Roblox to create online games.
