At least six people have died due to a stampede during a distribution of tickets for a religious festival in the Indian city of Tirupati, located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, in the southeast of the country.
According to information collected by the Indian television network NDTV, the event, which left at least 16 hospitalized, took place during a distribution of tickets for the Vaikuntha Dwara Sarvadarshanam.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and has expressed his hope that the injured have a speedy recovery, while ordering help to all those affected.

The authorities have already opened an investigation to clarify whether the agents assigned to guarantee the security of the process committed any type of negligence that led to the stampede, in which around 60 people were involved for fear of running out of passes.
