At least six people have died this Tuesday after a minibus fell from a ferry into the waters of the Nile River near the Egyptian capital, Cairo, authorities have confirmed.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health has indicated in a statement published on its account on the social network Facebook that the minibus has fallen from a ferry near Giza and has added that eight ambulances have been sent to the scene to treat the victims.
Thus, he highlighted that a total of nine injured people have been transferred to a nearby hospital, while three others have received treatment at the scene, where search and rescue operations continue for other possible victims of the event.
The minibus was transporting a group of about 20 workers who were returning from work in the town of Manashi, on the outskirts of Giza, according to the Egyptian newspaper ‘Al Ahram’. At the moment the causes of the vehicle falling into the river are unknown, from where the minibus has already been recovered thanks to the efforts of the rescue teams.
