The Turner family said the iconic artist died after a “long illness” in a statement shared with Rolling Stone on Wednesday.
“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland,” her family said. “With her, the world loses a music legend and role model.”

“I am so, so sad to hear of the passing of @TinaTurner, the iconic legend who paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white,” Gaynor wrote. “He did with great dignity and success what very few would have dared to do in his time and in that musical genre.”

Singer turned photographer Bryan Adams also expressed condolences Turner’s family, including her husband, Erwin Bach.
