( Spanish) – The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that Mexicans residing in the United States will have the necessary attention and that some consular procedures will even have “fewer requirements.”
“Mexicans in the United States are going to have all the attention, there will be even more attention, and there will even be many procedures with many lower requirements,” he said in his press conference this Friday.
When responding to a question from the press about the decrease in the budget for protection, assistance, as well as efficient and sufficient services for Mexicans abroad, Sheinbaum explained that this decrease will be achieved by reducing the salaries of senior officials.
Regarding Mexicans deported in the United States, Sheinbaum said Thursday that Mexico has a plan to receive them if President-elect Donald Trump begins mass deportations when he takes office.
“In case there are deportations, we are going to receive the Mexicans, and we have a plan for that,” he said during his daily press conference. “But we will work in advance to demonstrate that our compatriots on the other side of the border do not have to be deported, and on the contrary, they even benefit the American economy.”
“The work those workers do is crucial to the needs of the United States,” Sheinbaum said.
President-elect Donald Trump’s team is designing an aggressive strategy toward Latin America that will be a crucial element of plans to deport migrants on a large scale, according to two sources involved in transition policy discussions.
“We are prepared and at the appropriate time we will have these conversations with President Trump’s team,” Sheinbaum added.
Meanwhile, a caravan with more than 1,500 migrants in Tapachula and Chiapas, Mexico, is heading toward the US border, a spokesperson for the Chiapas State Police told on Thursday.
Police monitor and secure the caravan that includes people from several countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean, according to police.
