SF Studios has acquired the Nordic distribution rights to Ruben Ostlund’s upcoming new film The entertainment system does not workbefore filming begins in Paris in January.

SF plans to release in Nordic cinemas in autumn 2026.

“One of the highlights of Sadness triangle was the cross-country film tour we did together with SF Studios,” Ostlund said. “Even before shooting the new movie, we have already started conversations about how to make the tour even stronger. Among other things, I believe in offering the public electric shocks when they are bored and I hope that everyone else will get on board with the idea.”

Kirsten Dunst, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Bruhl, Samantha Morton, Nicholas Braun and Vincent Lindon lead the star-studded cast of The entertainment system does not work.

The film, mocked by Ostlund at festivals in recent years, is a contemporary satire that takes place on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system stops working.

It is produced by Erik Hemmendorff for Plattform Produktion, in collaboration with Film i Vast, Sveriges Television and SF Studios, with the support of the Danish Film Institute and the Norwegian Film Institute.

Coproduction Office is handling worldwide sales, and A24 acquired US rights during Cannes last year.

It is the last collaboration between SF and Ostlund and Hemmendorff after Involuntary, Play and winner of the Palme d’Or Sadness triangle.
