Schedule an appointment, rates and other changes to the passport service

Passport issuance service in Colombia will change from October 3rd with a view to modernizing the process. Measures to be implemented include changes in appointment scheduling, digital renewal of the document, reductions in measurements and other improvements.

Below we explain, point by point, what adjustments will be applied to the procedure.

Appointment Scheduling

A new appointment scheduling module will be launched at the beginning of October. It will have state-of-the-art software that will allow citizens to be identified through a user record integrated with the National Identification Archive Service (ANI) of the National Registry.

As explained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this system will implement a double authentication factor and will be more intuitive. In addition, will be available 24 hours a day and will show the availability of spaces in real time.

Online update

Citizens who have had their passport issued after 2017 will have the opportunity to renew the document 100% virtually. The process includes updating the photo and payment.

Once the transaction is approved, an email will be sent to the applicant informing them that their passbook is ready to be picked up at the location they have previously selected.

Exemptions from passport fees

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that a fee waiver will also be applied to those who meet some of the established requirements. Some of the population groups include:

Colombians who are in the country and belong to level 1 and 2 of Sisbén.

– Those who meet disability conditions.

Adults over 62 years old.

– People who must leave the country for health, educational or work reasonsor that belong to sports, cultural, artistic, scientific or technological development delegations.

If the conditions are met, the interested parties They must present some of the following documents for verification: medical certificates with health conditions, ICBF adoption documents, citizenship card, study certificates for minors under 25 years of age, work contracts abroad and/or sports certifications from the respective discipline body.

Rate reduction

At the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogotá, the value of the ordinary passport will be reduced from $207,000 to $180,000. Abroad, meanwhile, the new prices will be 60 euros in Cuba and Europe, and 82 dollars in the rest of the world.

This reduction in rates is a response to the implementation of the new shipping model and cooperation with the Government of Portugal.

Other changes

The Ministry also announced that the opening hours will be extended. Thus, the offices in the north and center of Bogotá will be open until 4:00 p.m.

Likewise, five additional modules will be installed at these locations, each with the capacity to issue between 20 and 30 passports daily. In addition, with the support of Migración Colombia, ‘Biomig’ registration points will be installed at passport offices to facilitate the migration process for users.

Along the same lines, mobile events will continue to be held in various regions of the country and work is being done with the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá. to install passport issuing points in the Supercade of Suba, Engativá, Bosa, Las Américas and Fontibón, among others.
