GDDR7 will be the memory that will be integrated into next-generation graphics cards and AI accelerators, and we have already seen some of the main memory chip manufacturers show their solutions.
Now it’s Samsung’s turn, which has announced the development of the world’s first 24Gb (gigabit) GDDR7 memory chips. They will be aimed at graphics cards, consoles or autonomous vehicles, without leaving aside the growing market for server and workstation solutions for Artificial Intelligence.
These chips will be manufactured with Samsung’s fifth-generation 10-nanometer technology, with which they achieve 50% more storage capacity, while maintaining the same size as previous chips. Furthermore, thanks to the use of this node and new design technologies, it has been achieved Improve energy efficiency by up to 30% and achieve 25% higher speeds that the previous generation, upon reaching the 40 Gbps speedand even the door opens to reach 42.5 Gbps.
For comparison, SK Hynix’s GDDR7 chips will hit 32Gbps with plans to increase to 40Gbps in the future.
The validation process of these chips for GPU manufacturers will begin before the end of this year, with their arrival on the market scheduled for 2025.
