Russia is invited to the commemorative events of the Normandy Landings in France

April 16 () –

The organizers of the events in June for the anniversary of the Normandy Landings have invited Russia to the tributes, although they have clarified that they do not intend for President Vladimir Putin to attend but rather a lower-level delegation.

Putin already attended the events organized on June 6, 2014 for the seventieth anniversary of the Allied landing, but his international image is now burdened by the authoritarian drift and, especially, by the aggression launched against Ukraine more than two years ago.

The Liberation Mission, in charge of organizing the tributes, has confirmed that Russia will be “invited”, given “the importance of the commitment and sacrifices of the Soviet people, as well as their contribution to the victory of 1945”, but Putin will be banned. .

“Taking into account the circumstances, President Putin will not be invited,” this organization stated, thus confirming information reported by the French broadcaster Europe 1, which had advanced the delivery of a formal proposal to the Russian Embassy in Paris.

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, has frontally condemned the invasion ordered by Putin on Ukraine and, in fact, the Elysée recently released excerpts from a tense conversation between both leaders prior to the start of said military offensive.
