RFDEW, the new weapon that shoots down dozens of drones from a kilometer away, for less than the cost of a piece of gum

Japan banned the sale of this legendary console in many countries due to its potential as a military weapon

Drones are the weapon of the future, to the point that Elon Musk himself believes that they will replace combat aircraft. While armies of drones are being manufactured, countermeasures are also being sought. The UK Ministry of Defense has revealed a new weapon called RFDEW, capable of shooting down dozens of drones from a kilometer away.

The most interesting thing of all is that each shot only costs 13 euro cents. So this anti-drone weapon is not only effective, but also very cheap.

The ammunition for most weapons has a huge cost. Firing a single missile, even if it fails, or for practice maneuvers, can cost thousands of euros. The same thing happens with bullets from a submachine gun, or similar. Weapons with cheap ammunition are very scarce.

The British Army already had a HELWS system to shoot down drones, which uses a high-power laser beam. But this weapon has a significant handicap: it can only shoot down one drone at a time. What if you suffer an attack from a swarm of drones?

HELWS is a good example of how a weapon that cost tens of millions of pounds expires just a year after being introduced. A few days ago the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense presented his replacement, the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW)capable of attacking a swarm of drones at the same time.

RFDEW can shoot down multiple drones up to a kilometer away. Instead of a laser beam, uses classic radio waveswhich are cheap to generate. Each shot only costs 13 euro cents.

Logically, the British military has not revealed how they convert a simple radio wave, harmless in its natural state (we are surrounded by them), into a lethal anti-drone weapon.

According to the statement“The weapon uses high-frequency waves to disrupt or damage critical electronic components inside devices such as drones, causing them to immobilize or fall from the sky. It can also be used against threats on land and sea.”

The United Kingdom already has its anti-drone weaponwhich can be deployed on any vehicle, and shoot down a swarm of drones from a kilometer away using radio waves, for just 13 euro cents. If it has to be destroyed, at least it should be cheap…
