Research.com Ranking: UdeC ranks first in the country in three areas of knowledge

By Communications University of Concepción.-Thirteen academics from the University of Concepción stand out in their respective areas in the research.com 2022an international measurement that gathers information related to research activities carried out in more than 800 institutions around the world, observing parameters such as the H index (which measures impact and productivity), citations and publications available in Google Scholar, among other sources.

The UdeC Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Dr. Andrea Rodríguez Tastets, pointed out that, as in the measurement of the previous year, the indicator highlighted thirteen researchers from the University of Concepción. “Once again, prominent academics and an academic from our University appear in privileged positions in the Research ranking, which is based on the analysis of objective data from the authors up to December 2022.”

The university authority also celebrated what this recognition means for the institution. “This measurement considers almost 170,000 scientists from more than 800 institutions worldwide, so it is a source of great pride for us to have our colleagues among the most outstanding.”

The academics recognized in this ranking are Raimund Burger and Gabriel Gatica Perez (F. Physical and Mathematical Sciences); Carina Lange, Osvaldo Ulloa Quijada, Rubén Escribano Veloso, Lohengrin Cavieres. (F. Natural and Oceanographic Sciences), Roberto Urrutia Pérez, Cristian Vargas Gálvez, Ricardo Barra Ríos. (F. Environmental Sciences), Luis Morán Tamayo, José Espinoza Castro, and Rubén Peña Guíñez. (F. Engineering) and Anibal Pauchard Cortes (F. Forest Sciences).

In this way, the UdeC stood out in five areas of knowledge considered in the measurement. Is about Mathematics, Environmental Sciences and Electronic and Electrical Engineeringwhich reach first place at the national level; ecology and evolutionin the second national place and Earth sciencesin third place.

People behind the numbers

“This ranking is based not only on the scientific production of a researcher, but also contemplates the impact of the research generated, since the number of citations is counted”, highlighted Dr. Raimund Burger, academic from the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, adding that “it makes me quite happy that my results are of interest to the scientific community.” For the mathematician, the result confirms his interest in following broad lines of research, in order to “make contributions to a variety of areas.”

Meanwhile, for the researcher of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Roberto Urrutia, “This is the result of the work, of the cooperation of the research group that has been formed within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, with strong international cooperation that we have been developing joint research for years.” The also Dean of the faculty indicated that there are lines of research to be explored, in order to develop new knowledge. “The objective is not to appear in the rankings, but rather to investigate and enjoy the research that one does, to work with love and so these things come out on their own”, he pointed out.

Finally, Dr. José Espinoza, an academic from the Faculty of Engineering, insisted that “researchers work convinced that we can contribute to finding high-impact solutions in the different dimensions of society. Finding out that the research we do in the Department of Electrical Engineering is positioned at the top of the national ranking is gratifying and shows the high human capacity, equipment and infrastructure of our institution”.

The outstanding researchers were greeted by the authorities of the Vice-Rector for Research and Development this Friday, March 17, at the VRID premises.
