Changes to neighborhoods are led by the introduction of “community status,” a new reputation bar that goes up by unlocking shelters, completing shelter missions, rescuing civilians, or killing sub-bosses. “As you help the people of Redfall free their city from the clutches of vampiric deities, you can use your support as currency to unlock rewards from the Vault skill tree,” explains Arkane Austin. There are six status ranks in the community that grant a total of 39 unique rewards that serve as permanent bonuses.
As you go up the skill tree the rewards will be more interesting. All status improvements in the community are intended to provide “a mix of practical improvements and gameplay benefits.”
Secondly we have news in the nests with the arrival of the old nests. “This new type of nest focuses on bosses and will challenge you to destroy especially dangerous modified vampires to free Redfall from their influence,” says the development team. The portals to access these nests are found throughout the island, just like the heart nests, but these new spaces can be distinguished by the purple glow that appears in the areas where their influence affects. Inside the elder’s nest the objective is to locate the vampire boss, destroy it, obtain the rewards and escape.
After eliminating an ancient nest the team will receive a temporary bonus called a “heart fragment”, the duration of which is adjusted according to the difficulty of the campaign.
Finally we have the so-called practical improvements, which include an offline mode to be able to play Redfall without an internet connection, as well as the incorporation of the pause for the solo mode. The update includes more things like new enemy encounters in the Redfall Commons, continued AI improvements, Story Mode difficulty, an unmatched weapon, and DLSS3, but there aren’t (and won’t be) full notes for this update.
“We are proud to bring you Game Update 4 for Redfall,” says the Arkane Austin team in a message to the community. “We want to thank you, the millions of players who have joined us. On behalf of everyone at Arkane Austin, thank you for playing our games and enjoying our worlds. It has been an honor to provide you with these experiences.”
