Red Cross confirms the release of two of its aid workers in Mali

March 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Mali Red Cross confirmed this Sunday the release of two of its aid workers, who were kidnapped at the beginning of the month between Geo and Kidal, in the north of the country.

“Our colleagues are well and have been released safely and without conditions,” the organization said in a statement published on its social networks.

The organization, which reported on March 4 the kidnapping of two members, asked “not to speculate on this incident so as not to hinder its resolution.”

The Red Cross then recalled that it has been present in Mali for 32 years and stressed that “the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) is a neutral, independent and impartial organization”.

Mali and the rest of the countries of the Sahel have experienced an upsurge in violence in recent years, both by groups linked to the branches of the terrorist organizations Al Qaeda and the Islamic State that operate in the region, as well as by inter-community groups.
