The Financial Superintendence of Colombia provided some recommendations for people to avoid being victims of theft and scams when purchasing the Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat). This alert is then launched by complaints about unscrupulous people and fake firms posing as insurance companies, insurance brokers, agents or insurance marketing agencies.

With the above, this entity delivered a series of warnings to identify false Soat shipments. These include: avoid falling into places that offer high discounts on rates.
Do not go to sites where sellers promise vouchers redeemable at service stations to tank the vehicle.
Also, it is recommended to be careful if you purchase Soat virtually to avoid falling into scams. This is taking into account that some criminals contact their victims through instant messaging applications and request that the Soat payment be made depositing the money in an account of a natural person.
How can you avoid being scammed?
According to the information provided by the Financial Superintendency of Colombia (SFC), there are different ways to avoid falling into the traps that criminals set when acquiring Soat.
“If you have doubts, before purchasing your Soat, verify the information they provide you“said the entity.
The first thing you should do is check if it is an entity authorized by the Financial Superintendency of Colombia to issue insurance.
On the Internet, type the insurance company’s web address directly, do not do it from links received by email, social networks, chats or when searching on the Internet.

Also, ask how to purchase the policy through the official channels of the insurance companies and insurance brokers. Find out about the terms and conditions of the product.
Do not share your personal data on social networks, chats or text messages.
You can go directly to the authorized insurance companies through their official channels that you can consult in the list of supervised entities.
“If you are going to acquire the Soat through insurance intermediaries, verify that they are people authorized directly by the insurance company or the insurance broker, go to the official service channels”, highlighted the SuperFinanciera.
On the other hand, be wary of SOAT offers through instant messaging applications or ads on social networks.
Refrain from depositing money in accounts whose owner is a natural person, unless you have confirmed that it is an authorized insurance intermediary that you trust.
And verify the issuance of the policy with the insurance companies and consult the Single National Transit Registry (RUNT) to ensure the validity of the purchased policy.
