Why is Meltan shiny so elusive in Pokémon GO?

It is important to say that Meltan can be captured in Pokémon GO whenever the player wishes, as long as the Mystery Box is enabled, but the creature will not appear in its shiny form if an event like the one now is not taking place.

In order to measure the rarity of this Pokémon, you should know that Meltan originally debuted in 2018, but the shiny version of Meltan was first available in 2019, also in a very limited form in a similar event, and returned in 2020 and then in 2022. That being said, you only get a chance to capture shiny Meltan annually.

How to get Meltan shiny in Pokémon GO?

Well, this event will not only enable the shiny version of Meltan, but it will also make the Mystery Boxes recharge in 2 days, unlike usual. Yes, players will be able to encounter more Meltan, which spawns around every minute for the next 60 minutes and there is a high chance that it will be shiny. Additionally, the creature will spawn more frequently in XXS and XXL sizes.

First, however, players will need to get the Mystery Box, which is unlocked as part of a special Research that requires sending Pokemon from Pokémon GO to Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee! or Pokémon HOME. Players who already have the Mystery Box should remember that it is enabled or charged by sending at least one creature after last activating it. The effect of the Mysterious Box lasts 60 minutes, then it is necessary to allow 2 days for it to activate and repeat the process.

The event will be available until next Wednesday, March 29 at 8:00 PM (your local time), so players who activate it today will be able to activate it 4 times if they don’t miss any day.
