Plex has been sending emails to its users explaining that they have had a security breach, explained later, in which our passwords could have been compromised, along with the reasons why. In short, Plex asks us to change our passwords out of simple precaution, since in principle nothing should have happened.
The company explains that there has been unauthorized access to its servers that has resulted in the leaking of a set of personal account data, including usernames, emails and encrypted passwords. As suchshould not be able to be decipheredjust as our account numbers and payment methods are not affected by this leak, as they are not stored on their servers.
Plex also explains that they have already patched the method used to access the company’s servers in the first place, so this problem should not be repeatedor at least not in the same way, something that also protects the rest of the data of users who have not been affected.
Finallyusers are prompted to change their passwords and log out of existing sessions from the Plex dashboard, something that will prevent any attacker from being able to log into our account before we have changed the password, and in case it has happened, we can kick you out instantly.
