Jan. 17 (Portaltic/EP) –
PlayStation has canceled two unannounced video games as a service, which were being developed by subsidiaries Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, to focus on online and single-player titles.
Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games are part of PlayStation Studios, PlayStation’s development label, and are responsible for titles such as Days Gone and the ‘remake’ of Shadow of the Colossus for PS4, respectively.
The two studios have been working for some time on unannounced titles that were going to be offered as video games as a service, that is, a type of ‘online’ video game, generally multiplayer, in which content is offered continuously or periodically, for payment.
However, PlayStation has decided to cancel these projects, as reported in a statement shared with workers, which includes Bloomberg. A spokesperson for the company explained to the aforementioned media that the decision to cancel responds to “a recent review” and that PlayStation will continue creating online and single-player games.
In October, Sony – PlayStation’s parent company – announced the closure of the video game developer Firewalk Studios after the failure of the launch of its title Concord, and due to the “competitive space” in which first-person shooter games are framed.
Sony also closed the Neon Koi mobile game development studio. In this case, the company explained that, although mobile devices are a “priority growth area” for the company, they are at a “very early” stage in terms of the efforts invested in this area.
