The 44th Confederal Congress of UGT, which has been held in Barcelona since Monday, has re-elected Pepe Álvarez as general secretary with 79.44% of the votes, as announced this Wednesday by the general secretary of UGT of Catalonia, Camil Ros.

This will be his third and last term at the head of the organization, which will close its confederal congress this Wednesday with a speech by Álvarez and the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa.

Born in March 1956 in the Asturian town of Belmonte de Miranda, Álvarez led UGT de Catalunya and was appointed general secretary of UGT for the first time in March 2016.

Specifically, the only candidacy presented to the Confederal Executive Commission has achieved 627 votes in favor of the 788 votes that have been cast.

Álvarez will be accompanied by the deputy secretary general Lola Navarro; the deputy general secretary responsible for the Internal Area, Rafael Espartero, and the general deputy secretary of Trade Union Policy, Fernando Luján.

SECRETARIES

The Executive Commission will also be made up of the Secretary of Organization, Andrés Jesús Orta; the Secretary of Resources and Studies, Luis Pérez; the Secretary of Occupational Health, Patricia Ruiz; the Secretary of International Politics, Jesús Gallego, and the Secretary of European Policies, Mari Carmen Barrera.

For their part, the executive secretaries will be occupied by Cristina Estévez, Diego Martínez, Amparo Burgueño and Alejandra de la Fuente.
