How do you spend time on a long flight? Do you prefer to read a book, watch a movie on board, listen to a podcast, or browse on your phone? Recently, a new trend has emerged that eliminates all of these options. Welcome to “rawdogging,” but not in the way you might think. This unusual fad started with young people on the internet who chose to sit with their thoughts or stare out the window for the entire flight, avoiding any form of in-flight entertainment. Recently, a YouTuber reported that an entire plane had to “rawdogging” during an 11-hour flight when the entertainment screens were turned off.
The best passengers could do was to swipe their screens to a map showing the remaining flight time. Despite attempts to reset the screens, the YouTuber described a “total blackout” about four hours into the journey. He couldn’t even sleep because a fellow passenger was using a very bright reading lamp.
In her video, she showed many passengers staring at blank screens with a “please wait” message, and described hours five and six as the “please wait” part of the ordeal. After the screens reset, they only showed the airline logo for a few hours. She noted that her neighbor’s reading light was “brighter than the sun” as she tried to sleep.
.
While some passengers had no choice but to rawdog during the trip, others had activities to keep themselves busy. The YouTuber and his wife were spared from rawdogging along with everyone else as they brought books and downloaded movies. In one comment, he mentioned that they “watched four episodes of House of the Dragon and then a series of movies.”
“That’s why I bring books on my flights or notebooks to write in. And it had a little light that was much dimmer than the airplane reading lights that I could stick on my stuff,” one user wrote in the comments.
“Never depend on airlines to do anything, on time or within their own terms of service. They are not responsible unless you file a lawsuit or complaint afterwards. It will not be fixed or compensated during the flight. In fact, it could get you flagged and banned from future flights,” wrote another user.
“This happened on my Delta flight from Atlanta to Rome. Raw food for 9 hours. The food was good though,” wrote the third user.
