Pakistan suffers a national blackout due to a network failure

23 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Pakistan woke up this Monday with a power outage that has affected the entire country, which is gradually recovering.

The country’s Ministry of Energy has reported that around 07:34 local time (03:34 Spanish peninsular time) there has been a reduction in the frequency in the national network, which has caused a general failure.

The ministerial portfolio has indicated at first that the maintenance of the system was progressing rapidly. Minutes later, he indicated through his Twitter profile that power was being recovered in “a limited number of networks” such as the Pesawhar Power Supply Company (PESCO) and the Islamabad Power Supply Company (IESCO).

Energy Minister Jurrum Dastagir has alleged that power generating units are temporarily switched off in winter at night as a cost-saving measure.

“There was a fluctuation in the voltage and the power generating units went out one by one due to the cascading impact. This is not a major crisis,” he explained, according to the newspaper ‘Dawn’, which has ensured that the energy it will be fully restored across the country in the next twelve hours.
