One person dead after shooting in Miami Beach during "spring break"

() — A shooting during spring break celebrations in Miami Beach left one person dead and another injured Friday night, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

Officers heard gunshots near 7th Street and Ocean Drive, a palm tree-lined intersection just yards from the beach, at around 10:41 p.m. Miami time and responded to the scene. They found two male victims who had been shot, Miami Beach police said in Twitter.

Violence erupted in the popular South Beach area amid St. Patrick’s Day festivities and spring break celebrations.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where one died and the other is in critical condition, police said.

A man was taken into custody and is “fully cooperating with the investigation,” according to police.

Four firearms were recovered from the scene, police said.

The Miami Beach Police Department has not identified the victims or the person in custody, but authorities confirmed that it was an isolated incident.

Last year, the city of Miami Beach imposed a curfew after two shootings during spring break. The overnight curfew began at 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday and expired Monday morning at 6 a.m. ET.

So far the authorities have not enacted a similar measure for this year.
