Bad news comes to us from Japan, as it has just been revealed that the chief executive producer of Dragon QuestRyutaro Ichimura, decided to leave Square Enix in a surprise announcement this Friday.

As you surely know, Ichimura was one of the main people in charge of any project related to Dragon Quest and was working on the next installment of the franchise. However, on March 31, he surprised the community with an unexpected announcement.

The Japanese made the decision to part ways with Square Enix, so he wanted to share a few words of thanks and used his official Twitter account to post his statement along with a special photo.

“This is a sudden announcement, but as of March 31, I am retiring from Square Enix.
I have a lot of thoughts, so it’s going to be a long time, so please take a look at the attached note. Thank you very much to all the staff who worked with us and to all the users!” Ichimura said in the post.

As you could see, the producer did not miss the opportunity to thank all his team and the fans for all this time working with the saga. However, he gave the reason for making this move:

“I started to count how many more games I will be able to do in my life. We have to carefully consider every title we make. Once I can restart and reflect, I would like to leave this blessed environment and explore what can be done if I dare to enter a higher risk one,” said the Japanese.

It is worth mentioning that the last project in which Ichimura participated was Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Daia game that recently announced its release window and which came under the watchful eye of its successor.
