RTX 4090 users report connection melting issues
A report of The Gamer shared information about some issues that are occurring with the RTX 4090, which would have to do with its power connectors melting. A user posted on reddit what happened to his GPU, which generated so much heat that it melted the connector in its connection ports. According to the user, although the installation of the hardware resulted in a small deformation of the cable due to size, he considered that this was not a concern. Then he started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 until he noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from his PC. Upon unplugging and opening, she noticed that the power connections had melted.
According to the report, something that has not been clarified is whether the user applied the recommended connection for the RTX 4090 GPU, 12 of 16 pins, since there is the possibility of making a connection with all of them to overclock assuming the risks that this represents. In this case, the possibility is opened that this has happened.
The topic on reddit made so much noise that an Nvidia representative contacted the affected person directly and is awaiting information on what they have discussed.
On the other hand, another user in a different thread on the official Nvidia reddit reported that he suffered something similar with his Asus RTX 4090 TUF Gaming – OC Edition because when he turned on and played for a while, the screen went black and when he opened the PC noticed that one of the connectors had melted.
Recently, the specter of excessive heat and melting haunted Nvidia with a rumor that the testing phases of the RTX 4090 Ti had given poor results as the equipment melted, so the company will modify its release plans to do the adjustments due before thinking about a commercial version.
