The president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has approved this Wednesday the suspension of the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrashid Bawa, for the various corruption scandals against him.
“Bawa has been ordered to immediately transfer the activity of his position to the director of operations of the Commission, who will supervise the affairs of the Office of the President of the Commission until the conclusion of the investigation,” the Office of the Commissioner said in a statement. Federation Government Secretary, Willie Bassey.
Bawa, accused by the former governor of Zamfata Bello Matawalle of an alleged bribe of two million dollars, has been removed from office “to allow a proper investigation into his conduct”, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Guardian’.
But it is not the only scandal in which the president of the Nigerian anti-corruption agency has been involved. He has also been accused of illegally selling at least 244 trucks of gasoline to suspected looters for auction while he was in charge of the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office.
This also comes after the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was arrested last Saturday just hours after Tinubu ordered his suspension from office amid an investigation into his economic policies.
