Nigeria confirms the release of all those kidnapped in an attack on a train station in Edo

Jan. 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Nigerian authorities have confirmed this Thursday the release of the last hostages that were still in the hands of those responsible for an attack carried out on January 9 against a train station in the state of Edo (south).

The Edo Secretary for Communication, Chris Nehikhare, has indicated that the last two hostages were rescued by security forces and has detailed that two local leaders have been arrested for their alleged connection to the incident.

“The success story in the kidnapping is that seven people, including two local leaders, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are helping with investigations,” he said, Nigerian news agency NAN reported.

The attack, whose authorship has not been claimed, was carried out by armed people who kidnapped more than 30 people who were waiting for a train to arrive. The event also resulted in several injuries, although there were no fatalities.
